Sustainable Agriculture Auditing Services (SAAS) – a programme of the Rainforest Alliance’s sustainable agriculture division – audit farms to the standards of the Sustainable Agriculture Network (SAN) in countries where the SAN has no other inspection bodies. SAAS works closely with Sustainable Farm Certification Intel. a SAN authorised certification body, in Costa Rica.
Job Description
The Co-ordinator, West Africa will be responsible for co-ordinating monitoring, evaluation & research functions for Rainforest Alliance projects in West Africa, with an initial focus on Ghana and Ivory Coast.
- She/he will work with Rainforest Alliance’s TREES and Agriculture field staff to develop and manage project performance monitoring plans that emphasis results-based evaluation, mapping and reporting with an initial concentration on the Forests, Climate & Community Alliance Project.
- She/he will co-ordinate with local research institutions and NGOs to design and implement research studies focused on evaluating the productivity, environmental, socio-economic impacts of best management practices promoted under the Sustainable Agriculture Network (SAN) standard, Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) standard and carbon standards.
- She/he will also support the collection, management and analysis of geospatial data along with the preparation of map products and capacity building in the utilisation of geospatial technologies and project monitoring.
Required Skills or Experience
- Degree in Natural Resource Management, Social Sciences, Environmental Economics or related field;
- Advanced degree preferred or an equivalent combination of experience and training;
- 5-7 years experience, with a minimum of 5 years experience conducting monitoring and evaluation and/or impact assessments of programmes and projects, preferably related to biodiversity conversation, natural resources management and sustainable development;
- Knowledge of econometric design principles and statistical/analytical procedures;
- Excellent research, analytical and report writing skills; Proficiency in information management and GIS
